We are the Youths, We are the Future But that Future is NOW!

Welcome to the Future Two kids pointing

Many young people spend their small days being told that they are the ‘future’ and they spend all their life hoping, waiting, wishing that they will wake up one morning and find that the ‘future’ has arrived. But it never does.

The future is not an occasion. It is not an event. Neither is it a place. Here are five key points that every young person should have in mind while thinking of the future.

5 key points for the youth

  1. Stop waiting for some uncertain future-create it
  2. The best way to predict the future is to create it.Create a vision of what you want your life to look like in the next two years and begin doing something that brings you closer to your objective everyday. You are not going to wake up one morning and then BOOM, here is your future. It’s the little things you do everyday that determine where your life is heading.

    Take control of your life

  3. You are responsible for your life
  4. Stop trying to justify everything that’s wrong with your life. You are responsible for where you are today and for where you are going. You are the pilot of your life.Yes,the weather will be bad sometimes. You can’t control that. But you are in control of the navigation. That’s what matters.

  5. Seize the opportunities in your hand
  6. Many youths complain about how the older generation does not give them an opportunity ‘to prove themselves’.To some extent, that argument holds water. But the people who made it in life are not those who waited for opportunities to present themselves. They got up and pursued their set goals. If you are going to do something worthy of note you must be willing to take the initiative.

There is also the tendency for people (not only youths) to think that there are better opportunities elsewhere. Before you leave for those seemingly ‘greener pastures’ make sure you are not looking for something that is already in your hands. There are opportunities where you are.Just spare a moment to look.Gold is under your feet!

  7. Youth is no excuse for mischief
  8. Don’t use your youthful energy in self destructive behaviors.Use it to create a better world for yourself and for others.Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg made revolutionary innovations when they were still young men. Both of them were 20 when they started Microsoft and Facebook respectively.Steve Jobs was 21 when he co-founded Apple.Even our Lord Jesus Christ was a youth when He was doing everything He did.

  9. Position yourself purposely
  10. Be deliberate in everything you do.Direct your efforts to where they will give you the most desired result.Don’t be haphazard.

If you want to be a doctor, for example, start reading medical journals and become friends with practicing doctors.Stop waiting for things to happen-make them.Be proactive.

We are the youths, we are the future but that future is NOW!
