How to Develop a Winning Mentality
1. Become visionary
Martin Luther King had a dream. What is your vision or dream? Every person who has a
winning mentality has a vision for their life. What is the difference that you want to make in
your life, family, community, or nation? Define your dream and hold it steadily in your mind-
2. Believe that your dream is possible
You must believe that you can achieve your vision, that you have (or can develop) what it
takes to make your dream a reality. The dreams that we have were given to us for the purpose
that we should achieve them.
3. Desire to win
In order to win you must want to win. How much do you want the thing that you want? Are
you willing to go out there and be in the sun, in the rain, in the wind, in the trenches and in
the snow for the sake of your dream? In the end the person who wins is the one who really
really wants to win.
4. Master your fears
A courageous person is not one who does not feel afraid but one who goes ahead in spite of
the fear. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Don’t let fear rule your life.
5. Take 100% responsibility for your life
Stop making excuses. Stop complaining. Stop blaming other people. Your life is your own
6. Associate with people who inspire / encourage you to dream
Stay away from toxic people. Toxic people are like vampires; they suck the life out of your
dreams. Really great people make you feel that you too can become great.
7. Engage in positive self-talk
Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are not a
mistake. You are here for a purpose. Speak good things over your life. There is power in the
8. Read good books / blogs /sites
Nothing has greater influence on your mental attitude than the books you read. Read books
that will build you.
9. Read stories (biographies) of people who have achieved great things
You will discover that many of the greats made it through tougher situations than yours. If
they did it so can you
10. Become action oriented
Once you start taking action you will develop momentum to keep going. Remember Isaac
Newton’s law of motion. Once you start you have started.
11. Sometimes you win-sometimes you learn
You can not win all the time. But there is always something to learn in every situation.
Learning is part of the process.
12. Develop a relationship with God
It is in Him that we move and live and have our being. It is Him who gives us the power to will
and to do. There is nothing we have that was not given to us by God.
As a man thinketh so shall he become. Everyday stand guard at the door of your mind. Be
careful who and what you allow into your mind.
